Does Acupuncture Hurt? What If Iʼm Afraid of Needles?

A fear of needles is fairly common given our experience with hypodermic needle injections. However, acupuncture needles are so thin that it would take roughly 100 of them together to match the size of a hypodermic needle. While some acupuncture needle insertions are not felt at all, the most common sensations are a heaviness at the area of insertion or a slight tingling. Most patients find acupuncture extremely relaxing and fall asleep during their treatments. If you are apprehensive about acupuncture, rest assured that we have helped many patients overcome their fear and receive treatments comfortably.
